What is a medium?
A medium has the ability to connect and receive messages with those who have passed on. Some recent television dramas have depicted this ability, for example, Medium starring Patricia Arquette, www.nbc.com/Medium, and The Ghost Whisperer starring Jennifer Love Hewitt, www.cbs.com, are theatrical but realistic portrayals of this ancient art. Whether we like or dislike these dramas, they help bring the important subject of mediumship into mainstream awareness.
Do mediums possess special powers?
We all have the power to connect to energies on other levels of existence. Generally, a medium has chosen to accept and develop this ability. In my case, it took many years to accept what was happening, but once I did so, it felt like second nature - because of course, it is.
Is a medium the same as a psychic?
Generally, a psychic foresees the future. A medium receives knowledge, advice or information that you need in order to learn something. This knowledge may or may not come from a relative who has passed on, but its importance lies in the meaning it has for you. When a loved one is involved, they may be unfinished business with you, or they need to share specific information to help you in a particular situation.
What is a rescue medium?
There are spirits who seek out mediums to help them into the light. They often don’t realize that they are holding on to life; they are feeling lost and unaware that they can move on. I generally do rescues with my sister Roma Black, and we help these lost souls move into the light.
Why do you close your eyes when receiving messages?
Because I am overwhelmed with moving images, I need to diminish the visual stimuli around me in order to better concentrate on what I am experiencing for you. I am also trained in body language and prefer to avoid unconsciously adding to the pure interpretation from Spirit.
Do you ever get "negative" people who want to come through?
My experience with less than positive energies has taught me how to protect myself, and those around me, from this type of interference. It took a while and some disturbing incidents, but I came to realize that I am in control of the experience, not the negative energies. Usually they just need help to realize themselves and move into the light.
How do you protect yourself and others?
I use the White Light of God, His Angels, and prayer for protection. Prior to all my readings, I meditate and draw Love and Light to me and you. When you receive messages, trust your security to whatever you understand God to be.
Why are some messages not true or don’t mean anything to the person?
One of the most difficult things for a medium to do is to stay out of the way mentally and to set their judgments aside. When I receive a message, the information filters through my personality and life experiences. I resonate with the information received but also need to interpret it. Occasionally I may think the message means one thing when it doesn’t. This is when the message has been clouded with a more personal interpretation. Sometimes, however, the reason that it doesn’t fit is because the sitter may not be ready to accept a certain message and therefore might deny its significance. It’s important to remember that as humans, misinterpretations can be made. Make sure you are comfortable with the medium you choose and remain aware of your own intuition so you can avoid an unscrupulous reading.
For me, Spirit lets me know if a message is right for you and usually emphatically! I will let you know if I have any doubts about the interpretation, and throughout the reading, I give an exact play-by-play of what I am seeing which allows you to the freedom to apply your intuition to the message at the same time.
If I were going to fall and break my leg spirit would I be told?
If you are going to be in circumstances that make it possible to fall and break your leg, Spirit attempts to warn you in numerous ways, including a message through a medium offering a strong suggestion to avoid something. Spirit also speaks through your dreams, through a gut feeling or impulsive thought, and through other divine intervention. For example, someone may suddenly invite you to sit and have a coffee, which is unusual for that person to do; or someone may call and ask for help which takes you in different direction, away from where you may be in danger. There are many ways of spirit contacting you to help you to avoid unpleasant situations. Your task is to learn to listen to yourself as best as you can.
Would you tell someone about impending illness or death?
In my experience, Spirit will give information guiding you to listen to your innermost feelings. If there are serious circumstances that need your attention, the message will likely confirm your deep intuitive feelings, not your fears.
What if I was curious and came to a group reading but didn’t want a message?
When Spirit has a message for you, it is common practice for the medium to ask if you would like Spirit to come to you. For me, if the answer is no, I thank the soul for coming and go to the next person. Please remember, the medium is always in control, you as the receiver and I as the conduit for Spirit to be expressed. Spirit does not control the session. 2
